Performs day-to-day accounting operations and assists the CFO in preparing monthly financial statements by preparing, monitoring and approving general ledger transactions, financial reporting, and analysis.

Duties/Requirements/Qualifications

  • Process month-end and year-end closings
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, GL account reconciliations
  • Review general ledger accounts for input and accuracy, trend analysis
  • Create reports as requested
  • Review invoices for coding accuracy and completeness before posting to GL
  • Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports; recording entries
  • Process employee expense reports by receiving and verifying expense reports and requests for advances; preparing checks.
  • Reconciles payroll registers to labor distribution reports
  • Prepare and post monthly bank reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable and credit card transactions in accordance with established procedures including coding and reviewing coding of invoices
  • Processes deposits and other receipts
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly contract summaries, indirect rate, and project status reports
  • Accomplishes accounting objectives by training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; adhering to policies and procedures
  • Meets accounting operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews; resolving problems; identifying system and process improvements
  • Meets accounting financial standards by providing accounting department annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions
  • Maintains cash flow by monitoring bank balances and cash requirements
  • Approves cash disbursements by verifying check amounts against invoices, authorizing checks and wire transfers
  • Approves ledger entries by auditing transactions
  • Assists in preparing annual incurred cost submission
  • Supports annual audit by providing information and answers to auditors
  • Maintains financial security by adhering to internal controls
  • Assist with other projects as needed
Education / Experience Required

  • Enrolled in an Accounting Degree Program
  • College Intern
  • Work experience with a government contractor preferred
  • PROCAS accounting software experience recommended
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, sumif, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Must be analytical and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task, with the ability to adapt to changing workflow
  • Self-motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and deal with other departments and outside parties
