Sr. IT Systems & Infrastructure Engineer - Manassas, VA

QSI  is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our Client's Team at their Headquarters in Manassas, VA. Qualified candidates will be highly motivated self-starters, able to operate effectively under pressure, as necessary, to maintain uptime of mission-critical systems. The individual in this position will be responsible for the management of the corporate systems, installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers and networks.

As a hands-on professional, the individual will provide systems support as well as implement project solutions. He/she will be called upon to design, select, configure, and support enterprise systems, software, operating systems and hardware; provide tier 3 end-user support, as well as create and execute project plans.

Duties/Requirements/Qualifications

Regular responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain and Upgrade:
    • 100+ Microsoft Windows Servers and associated applications
    • Microsoft Windows Active Directory
    • Microsoft Windows Servers ( 2012,2016,2019)
    • Microsoft Exchange Server
    • Microsoft Hyper-V 2019
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Various Linux distributions
  • Work with IT and Security Team to migrate to Microsoft 365
  • Establish standards, policies and procedures as they apply to the use of Company technologies and compliance with contract mandated security (CMMC, NIST, DFARS, etc.)
  • Support and improve production servers, applications, backups and services
  • Design, implement, troubleshoot, and administer Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, WINS, WSUS
  • Automate processes that enable desktop deployments and system infrastructure
  • Maintain and manage network installations (i.e. cabling, LAN, WAN, VoIP, VPN, and Network Security)
  • Plan, design and implement the Company’s future architecture; perform upgrades to Windows Servers, Microsoft Exchange, operating systems, applications, Domain Controllers (including Active Directory & replication) network switches, routers, firewalls and VPN solutions; implement system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the systems and networks
  • Enhance business continuity / disaster recovery process, creating and maintaining all disaster recovery documentation, configuration details and software necessary for recovery of corporate computing and networking environment
  • Document network and server architecture, solutions and enhancements; cross train others as needed
  • Provide tier 3 helpdesk support, responding to escalated user-submitted support requests
  • Write scripts to streamline tasks (VBscript, Batch, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Deployment (or version upgrade) of Active Directory in enterprise environment with child domains.
    • Experience with AD Forest consolidation a plus
  • Experience with KACE appliances a plus
  • Linux deployment and operational support experience
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, the individual will be at the highest technical tier level and ultimately responsible for solving all system problems.
  • Must be able to work with vendors and external support services if and when necessary.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
Education / Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
  • 8+ years system/network administration/engineering experience
  • Microsoft technical certification (e.g., MCSE) or extensive experience as a subject-matter-expert.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft technologies; Windows Server Domain architecture
